Green Flag (WBGTI of 80 to 84.9 degrees F):  Heavy exercises, for unacclimatized personnel, will be conducted with caution and under constant supervision.
Yellow Flag (WBGTI of 85 to 87.9 degrees F):  Strenuous exercises or physical labor will be curtailed for unacclimatized, newly assigned Marines and Civilian Marines in their first 3 weeks.  Avoid outdoor classes or work in the sun.
Red Flag (WBGTI of 88 to 89 degrees F):  All PT or very strenuous work will be curtailed for those not thoroughly acclimatized by at least 3 weeks.  Personnel not thoroughly acclimatized may carry on limited activity not to exceed 6 hours per day.
Black Flag (WBGTI of 90 and above degrees F):  All nonessential physical activity will be halted.

The WBGT (Wet Bulb Globe Temperature) is the data to reference to the flag chart above to determine current Flag Conditions.

WBGT Data provided by DPTMS

The QUESTemp° 34 Thermal Environment Monitor is the apparatus used to determine the Wet Bulb Globe Temperature at Fort Bliss. The monitor is located on Biggs Army Airfield. The QUESTemp°34 provides quick and accurate WBGT measurements for assessing environmental heat stress. This monitor measures and displays dry bulb, wet bulb, and globe temperatures while calculating and displaying indoor and outdoor WBGT indices. The QUESTemp° 34 also incorporates a relative humidity (RH) sensor. This integral RH sensor enables the QUESTemp° 34 to measure and display % RH while calculating and displaying heat index. The QUESTemp° 34 is extremely sensitive to temperature changes.

WBGT readings will vary from one location to another due to several factors. The type of WBGT monitor in use, calibration of equipment, operator´s knowledge of the equipment, site location/environment (i.e. shady, windy, in direct sun light, next to large body of water, etc.) are all factors that will come into play when taking WBGT readings. With that being said, the WBGT readings depicted on this website may differ from the WBGT readings at other locations. The WBGT readings depicted on this website should be used as a guideline only. As a recommendation, Commanders should set up their unit´s WBGT monitoring device(s) via their Field Sanitation Teams to determine the WBGT index in their respective locations.
