The Range Company is led by Capt Walter M. Raines and 1stSgt Travis L. Faison.
Range Company is the entry point to Weapons and Field Training Battalion for all recruits that want to earn the title 'Marine'. The company is responsible for training all recruits in the art of Marine Corps Marksmanship. The Marines instruct/train recruits how to fire at a target from 200 to 500 yards away. The first Marine a recruit meets in Weapons and Field Training Bn is his/her Combat Marksmanship Trainer (CMT) formally known as Primary Marksmanship Instructors (PMIs). These Marines are part of the Marksmanship Training Unit (CWO3 Kurre, GySgt Corns) which consists of Combat Marksmanship Trainer Section, School Section and Indoor Simulated Marksmanship Trainer (ISMT) Section. CMTs are responsible for providing all classes necessary for a recruit to become a successful Marine Rifleman. This is done through lecture, demonstration and practical application which last for a period of one week. The CMT will be the recruits Marksmanship mentor for two weeks of his/her life. The School Section is responsible for training all Combat Marksmanship Coaches (CMC) and Combat Marksmanship Trainers (CMT). The ISMT section is responsible for training all recruits that enter the ISMT for initial and remedial marksmanship training. The second week of marksmanship training for the recruits is live fire application on one of three ranges: Chosin Range (Capt Biles, SSgt Diaz), Starlite Range (CWO2 Brown, GySgt Williams) and Inchon Range (GySgt Edmonson, SSgt Hamm). While executing training on the range recruits will encounter Marines filling one of several billets essential to the success of the Battalion. These billets consist of ammunition technicians, maintenance NCOs, Combat Marksmanship Coaches (CMC), Block NCOs, Pit NCOs, Line SNCOs, Platoon Sergeant and Range Officer. These Marines must work together in complete synchrony in order provide the high level range operations and instruction to recruits daily. The Marines of Range Company provide recruits the guidance, mentorship and mental prowess basis needed to become a United States Marine Corps Marksman. |
