LtCol Douglas Lemott Jr. is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana, and enlisted in the Marine Corps on Oct. 25, 1988. As an enlisted Marine, he served with 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment, as a motor transport mechanic and deployed to Okinawa, Japan, as part of the Unit Deployment Program.
In July 1991, after successful completion of the Naval Academy Preparatory School, he accepted an appointment to the U.S Naval Academy. On May 31, 1995, he graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science and was commissioned as a Marine Corps officer. After graduating from The Marine Officer Basic School in March 1996 and the Communication and Information Systems Officer Course in December 1996 in Quantico, Virginia, he was assigned to Marine Wing Communications Squadron 28 in Cherry Point, North Carolina. While assigned to MWCS-28, he served as Single-channel Radio Platoon Commander from January to May 1997 and Multi-channel Radio Platoon Commander from May 1997 to June 1999.
In June 1999, he transferred to 7th Communication Battalion in Okinawa, Japan, where he served as assistant operations officer from June 1999 to May 2000, commanding officer of Company A from May 2000 to June 2001, and commanding officer of Support Company from June 2001 to June 2002. During his tour with the battalion, he also served as communication detachment commander for Exercise Ulchi Focus Lens ’00 in Korea, Tandem Thrust ’01 in Australia and Cobra Gold ’02 in Thailand. He was selected as a finalist for 2001 Alfred M. Gray Trophy for Outstanding Command and Control Systems Leadership.
From June 2002 to September 2004, he attended the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California, where he earned a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science. Upon graduation, he served with Marine Corps Tactical Systems Support Activity where he served as the Internal Support Branch head, Technical Support to the Operating Forces project officer, and led the Tactical Networking Analysis and Support Team.
In September 2007, he assumed the duties as communications officer for the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. During Western Pacific Deployment 08-02, he participated in theater security cooperation exercises Eager Mace in Kuwait and Infinite Moonlight in Jordan. Upon completion of his tour, he transferred to Marine Corps Command and Staff College in Quantico and graduated in June 2010.
In July 2010, he transferred to III Marine Expeditionary Force in Okinawa, Japan, to serve as the communications operations officer and was subsequently assigned to fill an individual billet as an operational planner with U.S. Forces – Iraq (USF-I). He served as an operational plans team leader in support of joint, combined, and inter-agency planning efforts for USF-I and the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad. He was responsible for coordinating and assisting the Iraq Training and Advisory Missions, working with Army, Navy, Air Force, intelligence, strategic logistics, and Iraq Ministry of Defense forces in developing USF-I Operations Order 11-01. Additionally, he led the establishment of and served as lead operational planner for an interagency planning team to facilitate and assist in the transition of the enduring mission in Iraq from the Department of Defense to the Department of State.
He assumed command of Support Battalion, Recruit Training Regiment, Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina on June 27, 2011.
LtCol Lemott’s personal decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (with gold star in lieu of second award), and the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal.
