Will my recruit go back to his/her original company?
When recruits leave STC and go back to training (s)he will not typically go back to the same company. Recruits are placed back into training with the company that is currently at the same phase of training from where they left off.
Will my recruit be allowed to make and/or receive phone calls?
At this time your son or daughter is still a recruit is not authorized to make phone calls. Recruits are authorized to make a phone call to notify a family member he/she has been dropped from training and will be placed within Special Training Company. Additionally, when a recruit is being picked back up for training another phone call will be made to inform family members of the change of status.
Can I visit my recruit while he/she is in Special Training Company?
Parental and spousal visits are not allowed while recruits are in STC.
What is my recruit’s address?
When your recruit is placed in one of the platoons in Special Training Company he/she will mail a postcard to notify a family member of the new address. This will typically arrive 7-10 days after the recruit has been dropped to STC. All mail written in the interim will be forwarded from the training company to the new platoon at STC. If you have not heard from your recruit after 10 days you may contact his/her recruiter as they will have this information as well.
What religious services are available for recruits in STC?
Recruits are allowed to observe and practice their religion while at STC. On Wednesday and Friday evenings the Battalion Chaplain holds bible study for all recruits in STC. Additionally, recruits are allowed to attend Sunday church service at the recruit chapel.
What if my recruit is in the hospital?
Recruits may be transported to the hospital for varied conditions. Typically recruits are taken to Naval Hospital Beaufort. In some situations it is necessary to take the recruit to Beaufort Memorial Hospital depending on the type of condition and specialties available. Both hospitals are within 4 miles of Parris Island. Additionally, recruits may be hospitalized in nearby cities such as Charleston or Savannah because of local hospital limitations. Anytime a recruit is hospitalized, family will be notified by his/her DI or the recruit him/herself. You will also receive contact information for the hospital liaison who can answer questions for you. Family members will continue to receive phone calls every Friday from their recruit or the hospital liaison with updates and prognosis.
Can I visit my recruit if he/she is in the hospital?
Very rarely do severe situations occur that warrant the need of family members to be present while their recruit is in the hospital. Parents and/or spouses can visit a hospitalized recruit at their own expense.
