First Sergeant Everette D. Skanes enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on 24 October 1990 and graduated from Bravo Company, 1st Recruit Training Bn, MCRD Parris Island, SC. Upon graduation he attended Marine Combat Training, Camp Geiger. N.C. Upon completion of MCT, he reported to MOS school at Camp Lejeune, NC, where he received the MOS of 3051, Supply warehouseman.
Private first Class Skanes received orders to 3rd Supply Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan. While there, he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
Lance Corporal Skanes was transferred to Headquarters and Service Battalion MCRD Parris Island, SC. There he was assigned to Headquarters and Service Company, Depot Clothing as a warehouseman.
In March of 1995, Corporal Skanes received orders back to 3rd Supply Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan for duty with Headquarters and Service Company. In February 1996 he was meritoriously promoted to the rank of Sergeant and received orders to the Marine Corps Detachment Fort Lee, Va. In August of that year he attended the Sergeants Course at Quantico, Va. where he completed the course graduating in the top 10% of his class. In February 1997 he was chosen as the Marine of the Year for Marine Corps Detachment Fort Lee.
In November 1999 he was promoted to the rank of Staff Sergeant and received orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, SC for duty as a Drill Instructor. Upon graduating he reported to India Company, 3rd Recruit Training Battalion. While there he served as a Drill Instructor, Senior Drill Instructor, Series Gunnery Sergeant, and Operations Chief.
In July 2003 he was transferred to Marine Wing Support Squadron 273, Marine Corps Air Station Beaufort, SC where he served as the Warehouse and Supply Chief. In February 2004 he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Upon returning from deployment, Staff Sergeant Skanes was transferred to the Staff Non Commissioned Officers Academy, Quantico, Va. for duty as a Faculty Advisor. He was then assigned to Officer Candidates School as a summer augment. He was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in August 2005 and returned to the Academy. In April 2006 Gunnery Sergeant Skanes attended the Advance course and graduated as a distinguished graduate. While at the SNCOA he served as Faculty Advisor, Chief Instructor, and SNCOIC of the Sergeants Course.
In December 2007 Gunnery Sergeant Skanes received orders to the 2d Marine Logistics Group Camp Lejuene, NC. He was assigned to the Combat Logistic Regiment-25 Headquarters Company where he served as the Company GySgt and Company 1stSgt. In September 2008 he was assigned as the Company 1stSgt of Transportation Support Company and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom 09-1. He was frocked to his current rank in March of 2009.
Upon returning from deployment First Sergeant Skanes received orders to Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island, South Carolina for duty. He was assigned to Charlie Company 1st Recruit Training Battalion, from 25 January until 1 December 2010 and Golf Company 2d Recruit Training Battalion, from 1 December 2010 until 5 July 2011. He assumed his current billet as the First Sergeant for Drill Instructor School on 5 July 2011.
First Sergeant Skanes has two Associate’s degrees from Central Texas College and a Bachelors of Business Administration from Averett University.
His personal decorations and awards include: The Navy Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with two gold stars as well as various other unit and service awards. |
