The Sergeant Major of the Headquarters and Service Battalion is
Sergeant Major Robert K. Williamson.
Sergeant Major Williamson was born in New Orleans, LA and enlisted in
the Marine Corps in July 1991. Upon completion of Recruit Training, he was
meritoriously promoted to Private First Class, completed Artillery Fire
Direction Controlman’s Course in Fort Sill, OK, and was assigned to 11th
Marine Regiment at Camp Pendleton, CA. LCpl Williamson was meritoriously
promoted to the rank of Corporal and later deployed with Battery F, 2d
Battalion, 11th Marines with Battalion Landing Team 1/4, 15th Marine
Expeditionary Unit aboard the USS Rushmore. Upon returning, Cpl Williamson
received orders to attend Marine Security Guard School in February 1995,
graduated and was assigned to American Embassy Brazzaville, Congo. In July
1996, Sergeant Williamson was assigned to American Embassy Buenos Aires,
Argentina and was subsequently meritoriously promoted to the rank of Staff
Sergeant in July 1997. In September 1997, Staff Sergeant Williamson served
as an Assistant Instructor at the Marine Security Guard School in Quantico,
VA.
In January 1998, Staff Sergeant Williamson
reported for duty as the Operations Chief and Headquarters Platoon Sergeant
for Battery I, 3d Battalion, 11th Marines in Twenty-nine Palms, CA and later
deployed to Okinawa and Camp Fuji, Japan. In August 1999, Staff
Sergeant Williamson was selected to the rank of Gunnery Sergeant and was
assigned as the 81mm Mortar Platoon Sergeant with 3d Battalion, 7th Marines
in Twenty-nine Palms, CA. While assigned to the 81mm mortar platoon,
Gunnery Sergeant Williamson served as an instructor with a U.S.-led Mobile
Training Team to Skopje, Macedonia in May 2000, deployed to Okinawa, Japan,
and later served as the Heavy Weapons Platoon Commander while aboard the USS
Rushmore in support of Landing Force CARAT throughout Southeast Asia.
In September 2001, Gunnery Sergeant Williamson
received orders to attend Marine Security Guard School and upon graduating,
was assigned as the Detachment Commander at American Embassy San Jose, Costa
Rica. In April 2003, Gunnery Sergeant Williamson was selected to the
rank of First Sergeant and in July 2003, was assigned as the Company First
Sergeant to the Military Police/Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical
Instruction Company, Marine Corps Detachment, Fort Leonard Wood, MO.
In June 2006, 1stSgt Williamson was assigned to Headquarters Company,
8th Marines, Camp Lejeune, NC and in October 2006, deployed to Company F, 2d
Battalion, 8th Marines in Fallujah, Iraq and again in October 2007 to Ramadi,
Iraq in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. In January 2008, he was
promoted to the rank of Sergeant Major and was assigned as the Squadron
Sergeant Major for Marine Wing Support Squadron 272 from February 2008 to
August 2010, serving in Al Taqaddum, Iraq and New River, NC. He served as
the Battalion Sergeant Major for 2d Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion
from October 2010 to March 2012 and deployed to the Southern Helmand River
Valley in support of Operation ENDURING FREEDOM in 2011. He assumed his
current post as the Headquarters and Service Battalion Sergeant Major in
April 2012.Sergeant Major Williamson’s personal decorations
include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine
Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Army
Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
