CWO2 Joshua A. Stone
Band Officer
Parris Island Marine Band


Joshua A. Stone enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1995. Upon completion of recruit training at Parris Island, South Carolina, he attended Marine Combat Training at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. His first assignment was as a percussionist with the Marine Corps Recruit Depot (MCRD) Band, Parris Island.  His additional duties while at Parris Island included percussion section leader and timpanist in the concert band. In 1998, he was reassigned to III Marine Expeditionary Force Band in Okinawa, Japan where he also served as a percussionist and drummer in the jazz ensemble.

In 2002, he was selected to serve as the Musician Technical Assistant for the Northeastern United States.  After graduating from Recruiters School in San Diego, California, he was assigned to the 1st Marine Corps District in Garden City, New York.

On February 1, 2005, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stone was appointed to Warrant Officer and subsequently reported to The Basic School, Quantico, Virginia.  In June 2005, following graduation from the Warrant Officer's Basic Course, he was assigned as Director and Officer in Charge, 1st Marine Division Band, Camp Pendleton, California.

Shortly before his commissioning on August 1, 2006, Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stone deployed with the 1st Marine Division Band and was attached to Regimental Combat Team 5, I MEF (Fwd) in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.  During this deployment in the Al Anbar Province, he was assigned as the Security Officer for the Civil Military Operations Center, Fallujah. While he served at Camp Pendleton, the 1st Marine Division Band was also cited and awarded for musical excellence.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stone transferred to MCRD Parris Island, South Carolina in the summer of 2008.  He currently serves as Director and Officer in Charge, Parris Island Marine Band.  He has led the band in concert tours throughout the Eastern Recruiting Region and regularly conducts the Parris Island Marine Band at Morning Colors. In December 2009, under Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stone's baton, the Band was awarded the Colonel George S. Howard Citation of Musical Excellence for Military Concert Bands by the John Philip Sousa Foundation.

Chief Warrant Officer 2 Stone has earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Valdosta State University in Music Education and is currently studying online at Dallas Theological Seminary.  His military decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with two gold stars and Combat Distinguishing Device, the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and the Combat Action Ribbon.
