
The commander of the Weapons and Field Training Battalion is
Colonel Andrew R. Kennedy.
Colonel Kennedy is a native of Stamford, New York. He graduated from Cooperstown Central HS in 1982, and received a BS from Cornell University in 1986. Commissioned a 2nd Lt in June 1986, he completed The Basic School with BOC 6-86 and graduated Infantry Officers Course 3-87.
He served as a platoon commander, Company XO, and Company Commander in 1st Bn, 3rd Marines from 1987 to 1990.
Assigned to the School of Infantry from 1990 to 1993 Colonel Kennedy served in both Marine Combat Training Battalion and Infantry Training Battalion as Company XO and CO. He served in the School HQ as Chief Instructor and Director of Training.
Upon completion of his tour at SOI, Colonel Kennedy attended Amphibious Warfare School and was assigned to 2nd Battalion 6th Marines where he served as Assistant Operations officer and commander of Company G from 1994 to 1996.
From 1996 to 2000 Colonel Kennedy served as a combined arms instructor at the Combined Arms Exercise (CAX) Program in 29 Palms Ca.
From 2000 to 2003 he served as Operations Officer at 2d Marine Regiment. Colonel Kennedy was then assigned as an instructor with the MAGTF Staff Training Program (MSTP).
In 2004 he assumed command of 3rd Battalion 4th Marines and served in that capacity until 2006. From 2006 to 2007 he served as Director of the Urban Warfare Training Center at 29 Palms.
Colonel Kennedy’s service schools include Amphibious Warfare School, USMC Command and Staff College, Weapons and Tactics Instructor Course and Winter Mountain Leaders Course.
Colonel Kennedy’s personal awards include the Combat Action Ribbon and the Bronze Star with combat distinguishing device. |
